The embassy of the Republic of Mozambique in Berlin is the diplomatic representation of the aforementioned state (Portuguese: Moçambique) in the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany . After gaining national independence in 1975, the then People's Republic of Mozambique established diplomatic relations with the GDR. Diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany have existed since 1976.

history

After gaining independence from the colonial power Portugal in 1975, the People's Republic of Mozambique established diplomatic relations with the GDR . A diplomatic mission of the GDR was opened in the capital Maputo ; Johannes Vogel became the first GDR ambassador . There was a permanent radio link between the GDR Foreign Ministry and the embassy. The house in Maputo was returned to the local government on October 2, 1990 by the last GDR chargé d'affaires Jürgen Pötzl.

In the GDR, which supported the country politically and economically, Mozambique set up its East Berlin embassy in what was then Clara-Zetkin-Strasse 97 (since 1992 Dorotheenstrasse again ). The last ambassador to the GDR since 1984 was Julio Gonçalo Braga.

The Federal Republic of Germany established diplomatic relations with Mozambique in 1976. The seat of the representation of Mozambique, which did not have the status of an embassy , was at Adenauerallee 46a in Bonn .

In 1990 the Communist People's Republic became the Republic of Mozambique. The embassy rooms in East Berlin were given up and, with the support of the Berlin Senate , a commercial building was found in the Moabit district .

Honorary consulates that work with the Berlin embassy have established themselves in Munich , Hamburg , Stuttgart and Vienna .
