The Belarusian Embassy in Berlin (officially: Embassy of the Republic of Belarus , Belarusian : Пасольства Беларусі ) is the headquarters of the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Germany.

The embassy building is located at the Treptow Park 32 in Berlin district Plänterwald of Treptow-Koepenick . The Belarusian embassy in Berlin is also subordinate to honorary consulates in Cottbus and Hamburg . In Munich there is a consulate general organized independently of the consular department of the embassy. The ambassador is Denis Sidorenko.

history

The Belarusian People's Republic , which declared its independence in March 1918, set up an extraordinary diplomatic mission in Berlin, which was active from 1919 to 1925. Although the Republic of Germany did not receive diplomatic recognition, its representation was officially registered by the German Foreign Office in March 1919. Representatives of the Belarusian People's Republic had contacts with the German government and meetings with the German Foreign Minister Walter Simons . The mission was actively involved in helping Belarusian prisoners of war and disseminating information about Belarus in German society. It was also a coordination center for diplomatic missions of the Belarusian People's Republic in some other countries. The diplomatic mission was located at Motzstrasse 21, and the Belarusian press office, which is attached to the diplomatic mission, was located at Kaiser-Allee 209.

In 1923, Germany officially established diplomatic relations with the Bolshevik-controlled Soviet Socialist Republic of Belarus . However, no effective bilateral relations were maintained and no embassies were opened in Minsk or Berlin.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the restoration of independence from Belarus, diplomatic relations with Germany were officially restored in 1992 with reference to the diplomatic relations established in 1923.

The Belarusian Embassy in Germany was officially opened in 1994 by Ambassador Piotra Sadoŭski in the presence of Foreign Minister Piatro Kraŭčanka and State Secretary of the German Foreign Office Dieter Kastrup . Until 1996 the embassy was located at Fritz-Schäffer-Straße 20 in the Gronau district of Bonn . In 1996 the embassy was moved to Berlin. Until its demolition in 2014, the building served as a branch of the embassy.

building

The embassy is located in Berlin next to Treptower Park in two villas from the 19th century. One of them served as a residential building before World War II and later became a post office. In December 1996 the building was acquired by the Republic of Belarus.

The second building was originally known as Villa Luise and was built in 1888 by the architect Paul Höfchen. The house was designed by Theodor Fontane in his walking tour through Mark Brandenburg mentioned.
