In addition to the actual employees, the embassy in Berlin also has an honorary consulate in Leipzig . In Frankfurt am Main , Munich and Stuttgart there are consulates general that are organized independently of the consular department of the embassy.

Željko Janjetović has been the ambassador since September 23, 2015 . His predecessor (2012-2015) was Edin Dilberović .

history

After the official establishment of the state following the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia (whose embassy in the GDR was in Berlin-Mitte , Albrechtstrasse 26), the federal state of Bosnia-Herzegovina was founded in 1992 with all the necessary government and administrative institutions. After establishing diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany, the first embassy of the new state moved into a house at Sankt-Augustinus-Strasse 16 in the Bonn district of Alt-Godesberg . The move to Berlin only took place in the 2010s after the acquisition and renovation of a building built in the GDR era.

Property

In the 1940s there were still no buildings at this point; the Berlin address book , for example, shows a coal storage area here in 1940. A community school had been established in the neighborhood (Ibsenstrasse 17). The three-story, cube-shaped house on the north side of the street was erected in the 1970s as a single building, together with around 20 similar prefabricated buildings along Ibsen, Gotland and Stavangerstrasse and the Esplanade. They served the diplomatic representatives of various small states after they had recognized the GDR .

The embassy building has balconies to the north and south and stands on a 40 m × 46 m plot. The embassy building is a building designed by the architect Eckart Schmidt .
