history

Diplomatic relations between Germany and Laos have existed since 1958. However, the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR did not open the first embassy in Laos until 1975 in the capital Vientiane .

The People's Democratic Republic of Laos , as the state called itself at the end of the 1970s, maintained its embassy for the GDR from around this year in the Berlin district of Pankow , Esplanade 17.

After the political change , this bilateral relationship ceased, the house in Berlin was given up and Laos used the villa Am Lessing 6 in Königswinter near Bonn as an embassy building from 1990 until the move to Berlin in 2001 .
