The Ukrainian Embassy in Berlin is the diplomatic representation of Ukraine in Germany . The embassy building is located in the Albrechtstraße 26 in Berlin district center of the district of the same . The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany has been Andrij Melnyk since December 2014 .

history

After the First World War , in 1918 the People's Republic of Ukraine or the Ukrainian State became the first Ukrainian nation-state . The German Reich recognized the state and Theodor Steinheil became the first Ukrainian ambassador to Germany. Mykola Porsch ( USDRP ) and Roman Smal-Stozkyj followed him as Ukrainian ambassadors. In the course of the Russian Civil War , most of the Ukraine was conquered by the Red Army and incorporated into the newly established Soviet Union as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic . Nikolaus von Wassilko was the last Ukrainian ambassador to Germany in 1923.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , Ukraine declared itself independent in December 1991. On January 17, 1992, diplomatic relations were established between Ukraine and Germany. The first ambassador of the new Ukrainian nation-state in Berlin was Iwan Piskowyi .

The headquarters of the embassy is the former administrative building of the municipal gas works in Berlin 's Mitte district of the district of the same name . It was built in 1910 by Ludwig Hoffmann and rebuilt after the political change in 1992. As part of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Stadt building ensemble, it is a listed building .
