The former embassy building is located in the middle of a residential area on the corner of Rheinhöhenweg and Buchenweg (address: Rheinhöhenweg 101) in the village of Waldheide at 155  m above sea level on the so-called Oberwinterer "Rheinhöhe" NHN .

history

After establishing diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany on January 17, 1992, Ukraine opened an embassy in March 1992 at the Bonn government seat. It was initially based at the former location of the embassy of the Soviet Union , within which Ukraine formed a union republic before its independence (1991) , on the Viktorshöhe in Bad Godesberg . In order to be represented at its own location, the Ukraine - when the relocation of the seat of government to Berlin had already been decided - acquired the former "Waldheide" hotel in Oberwinter, which was built after the Second World War and leased as a restaurant after 1978. After the conversion into an embassy building was completed, the embassy office moved from Bonn to Oberwinter in December 1994. The official opening of the new embassy headquarters took place on the occasion of the state visit of the Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma on July 4, 1995. In the spring of 1998 the visitor room was expanded.

In the course of the relocation of the seat of government, the headquarters of the Ukrainian embassy moved to Berlin in 1999 (→ Ukrainian embassy in Berlin ). In Oberwinter, the Bonn branch of the embassy was left, its only branch and the only diplomatic mission in the former capital region that remained outside of Bonn. Their task consisted in contact with the federal ministries that remained in Bonn, the United Nations institutions located there, and with companies and associations in North Rhine-Westphalia. In October 2003 a visa section was opened in the branch office, which was supposed to relieve the Ukrainian Consulate General in Frankfurt am Main . The outpost was first with a counselor , a First Secretary, an attaché and a military attaché rod consisting of an air and naval attache (as of September 2002), and most recently even with a Counselor occupied (as of November 2015). Your consul arbezirk included the country North Rhine-Westphalia . On the basis of a resolution by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry from November 2014, the embassy branch was closed on November 18, 2015; instead, a Ukrainian consulate general was opened in Düsseldorf on December 2, 2015 . To this day, the exterior of the building has remained unchanged and the former embassy building has not yet been converted (as of February 2019).
