List of diplomatic missions in Bonn
The list of diplomatic missions in Bonn shows which buildings in the federal city of Bonn , which was the seat of government of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949 to 1999 , and its surroundings were or are used by the embassies and other diplomatic missions; how they came about, what changes they have undergone and how they are used today. A small part of the diplomatic missions was located outside the city of Bonn in the Rhein-Sieg district , in Cologne and in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Ahrweiler .
Short story
On December 15, 1949, eleven foreign missions for the Federal Republic of Germany were initially accredited by the Allied High Commission . The number of embassies or original embassies in what is now the city of Bonn increased from 20 in 1951 (at that time the focus of the residences in Cologne-Marienburg ) to 105 in 1974 to 119 in the mid-1980s (88 of them with a law firm in Bad Godesberg ). About 30 specially constructed embassy buildings were built - an "embassy quarter" to be built as such, of which only the Syrian embassy was realized, was planned in the Hochkreuz district at the end of the 1980s . Most recently, 10,000 diplomats were employed in around 150 diplomatic missions in the greater Bonn area. After the relocation of the seat of government to Berlin , some embassies, some temporarily and some permanently, were converted into (general) consulates and embassy branch offices or remained in the possession of the respective state for other reasons.
