Villa Rolandstrasse 43 (2012)

The building at Rolandstrasse 43 is a villa in Rüngsdorf , a district of the Bad Godesberg district of Bonn , which was built in 1921. It comprises a 1.1  hectare large land with one to Rheinstrasse above the bank of the Rhine reaching down park . The villa stands including the park as a monument under monument protection .

history

On the property of the later villa was already 1912 for the royal. First public prosecutor Carl Leggemann from Münster built a garden house with a terrace according to plans by the Godesberg architect Carl Metzmacher . The villa was built in 1921 to complement the garden house as a country house for the hut director Wilhelm Bögel, based on a design by the Godesberg architects Christoph Brüggemann, who previously worked as an employee in the architecture office of Willy Maß , and Gerhards. In 1942 the villa was converted into small apartments.

After Bonn had become the seat of government of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949 , the Republic of Italy established the residence of its ambassador in the villa in 1952 at the latest - the embassy chancellery was also in Bad Godesberg ( Karl-Finkelnburg-Straße 49-53 ) - and acquired it in 1958. In 1959, instead of a garage and greenhouse, a guest house was built for the embassy and the former garden house was converted into a porter's or guard house.

In the course of the relocation of the seat of government , the Italian embassy moved to Berlin in 1999/2000 , and the previous residence was also given up after the last receptions in spring 2000. The villa was already sold to a private entrepreneur from Bonn by July 2000.

The entry of the villa including the garden house from 1912 as well as the park with the terraces in the list of monuments of the city of Bonn took place on April 14, 2000. The outbuildings from 1959 are not listed.

architecture

The villa is a two-storey, in neoclassical held forms stucco building with art and natural slate laid hipped roof and dismounted attic . It comprises five axes on the street front and seven axes on the Rhine front . The middle axis of the street front is designed as a central projection with the entrance door, which is accessible via a multi-step staircase and framed by a portico column . The villa has a living space of about 600 m², the associated guest house 200 m² and the guard house 100 m². The ground floor contains (as of 2000) three representative living rooms, a library and a large kitchen, the first floor has four bedrooms and a private living room and the top floor was originally intended for the house staff . The outer structure and the interior of the building have retained the original floor plan and most of the original furnishings.

The garden house from 1912, located near the main entrance, is a partially basement, single-storey and massive plastered building with a roof covered with natural slate on an approximately square floor plan. From the beginning it had the character of a porter's house. The 6,000 m² park that belongs to the Vila is located on an area sloping down towards the Rhine and includes some old trees. The park forms a unit with the terrace area, from which it is accessible via a double staircase parallel to the retaining wall . Both the fencing of the park and the routing in the front and rear of the property go back to the construction time of the garden house.
