The Marienforster Straße 52 building (also known as Villa Marienforst and Villa Engels ) is a villa in the Bad Godesberg district of Bonn , which was built in 1883. It is located on the outskirts of the Schweinheim district outside the closed town on Landesstraße 158 (Bad Godesberg - Pech ). The villa is available as part of the Guts Marienforst as a monument under monument protection .

history

The villa was built on the site of the Marienforst Monastery , which was founded in the middle of the 12th century and secularized in 1802 , which was then converted into an agricultural estate . In 1878 Friedrich August Engels (1850–1921), son of a factory owner from Barmen (today Wuppertal ), acquired the estate. In 1883 he had the villa built on the property. As part of the estate, it remained in the possession of the Engels family until it was sold to Theodor Wilhelm Huttrop from the Essen district of Huttrop in 1929/30 .

In 1974/75 the Republic of India set up the residence of its embassy , previously located in Cologne-Marienburg ( Rondorfer Strasse 9 ), in the villa , the residence of the ambassador in the Federal Republic of Germany at the seat of government in Bonn. It was one of the few residences that were in rural surroundings. The interior design and handicrafts typical of the country were furnished . In the course of relocating the seat of government , the Indian embassy moved to Berlin in 1999 (→ Indian embassy in Berlin ). In 2002 at the latest, the villa found a new use as the location of a telecommunications service provider . Today it is the rental property of Nexiga GmbH (until 2014 infas geodaten GmbH ), a provider of geomarketing solutions and a former spin-off of the Infas Institute for Applied Social Science with around 30 employees.
