Malagasy Embassy in Falkensee

The Madagascan Embassy in Falkensee is the diplomatic representation of Madagascar in Germany. She also represents Malagasy interests in Austria , Norway , Denmark , Sweden , Finland and Iceland . The embassy building is located in the outskirts of Berlin outside the city limits on Seepromenade 92 on the shores of Falkenhagener See in the Brandenburg city of Falkensee . It is the only embassy based in Brandenburg.

History of diplomatic relations

Madagascar has had diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany since 1961, shortly after the country gained its independence from France in 1960 . The state's first embassy was located in what was then the federal capital of Bonn in a specially constructed office building in the Rüngsdorf district .

With the German government moving to Berlin , the Malagasy state followed this trend and found a suitable plot of land in Falkensee near Berlin. After some construction work, the new embassy headquarters was opened in December 2001. The office was inaugurated in 2003 and has been on friendly terms with the city administration of Falkensee ever since.

Between January 21, 2003 and February 2006, Radafiarisoa Léa Raholinirina was the Accredited Ambassador of Madagascar. From March 2006 to around the end of 2009, Alphonse Ralison represented the Republic of Madagascar diplomatically, formerly Minister for Tourism and Minister for Economy in his country. Florence Isabelle Rafaramalala has been the Embassy Counselor of Madagascar in Germany since June 2016, replacing Lea Raholinirina .

Structure of the message

The following organization supports the bilateral relations between Germany and Madagascar with regard to personal and business matters:

  • Diplomatic and consular department
  • Economic and tourist department
  • Culture department
  • Social department
  • Communication department
  • Finance and Logistics Department.

Honorary consuls work on behalf of the state of Madagascar in three German federal states, in Austria and in Scandinavian countries .

The ambassador is appointed for a period of three years.

architecture

The Madagascan architect Henri Randrianarisoa was commissioned with the construction of the Madagascar embassy building and the ambassador's residence, which was also built on the property ; the realization was carried out by the German Fundamenta Baupartner GmbH . Randrianarisoa based the conception on the royal palace built in the 17th century in Antananarivo , the capital of Madagascar, and added elements of the colonial era and modern Malagasy design. Central to the Merina dynasty, the royal palace is the country's most important secular and religious symbol.

The embassy building has three floors and an almost square base area, which is emphasized by the four risalit elements at the corners. The entire house is held in a strong red earth tone to demonstrate the brick-red earth of the country. The front is determined by the central entrance area, above which a large plaque based on Madagascar's coat of arms is attached. A balustrade of small columns in the European Baroque style forms the end of the facade . Behind it rises a steep and shingled tent roof typical of the Malagasy design.
