The establishment of diplomatic relations was agreed with the GDR in May 1970. The embassy was located in a building at Dönhoffstrasse 38 in Berlin-Karlshorst . It was the former laboratory of the Association of German Portland Cement Manufacturers, built in 1901. In the mid-1980s, the embassy relocated to Esplanade 23 in Berlin-Pankow.
From 1965 to 1999, the Algerian embassy was in the old Federal Republic in Bonn , Rheinallee 32/34.
The building on Görschstrasse, in the immediate vicinity of a school complex, bought and renovated by the embassy after the Bonn-Berlin move , is a monument. The house was built in 1914/1915 according to plans by the architect Carl Fenten and was the administrative building of the Imperial Main Customs Office.
