The embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Algeria in the Federal Republic of Germany was based in the Bad Godesberg district of Bonn from 1963 to 1999/2000 . After the embassy was relocated to the German capital , there was an Algerian consulate general here , which was relocated to Frankfurt am Main at the end of 2013 . The former embassy building, two listed villas, are located in the district of Godesberg-Villenviertel on Rheinallee (house numbers 32–34) on the corner of Kronprinzenstraße.

After Algeria gained its independence in 1962, the state established diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany on June 14, 1963 and opened an embassy at the seat of government in Bonn. The office of the embassy was based in the Bad Godesberg district, the spatial focus of the diplomatic missions, at Villa Rheinallee 32 . While the diplomatic relations between the two countries were interrupted between August 14, 1965 and December 21, 1971 as a result of the recognition of Israel by the Federal Republic, the embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, acting as a protective power for Algeria , took up a "Department for the interests of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria “From the current location of the Algerian embassy, business for the country came true. After 1985, Algeria also took over the neighboring Villa Rheinallee 34 , which had previously been home to the Chad embassy . Both buildings were connected by a glass intermediate wing, which also accommodates the entrance. As the residence of the embassy, residence of the ambassador, Algeria acquired a house in the Drachensteinpark in the Mehlem district (Viktor-Schnitzler-Straße 13) in 1964 .

In the course of the relocation of the seat of government , the Algerian embassy moved to Berlin in 1999/2000 . A consulate general of the state was then opened in the former embassy building, the only one in Germany. The consular district comprised the ten states that were not assigned to the main office of the embassy in Berlin: Baden-Württemberg , Bavaria , Bremen , Hesse , Lower Saxony , North Rhine-Westphalia , Rhineland-Palatinate , Saarland and Thuringia . The Consulate General in Bonn was closed on December 15, 2013 and reopened in Frankfurt am Main on January 1, 2014. With the move of the Consulate General, the use of the former residence in the Mehlem district was given up. The former Consulate General buildings are still owned by Algeria. To date (as of September / October 2019) the real estate has not been converted.
