The Armenian Embassy in Berlin (officially Embassy of the Republic of Armenia , Armenian Հանրապետության դեսպանություն Հայաստանի ) is the headquarters of the diplomatic mission of Armenia in Germany. Ashot Smbatjan has been ambassador since July 8, 2015 .
Location and history
Between the establishment of the Soviet Union in 1922 and the full integration of the countries of Armenia , Azerbaijan and Georgia , they had come together to form the Union of Transcaucasian Socialist Soviet Republics . Until around 1922, German embassies existed in the cities of Tbilisi and Baku under the collective name of Transcaucasia .
The Republic of Armenia was founded after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 as an independent state with all the necessary government and administrative institutions. After the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany in January 1992, the first message of the new state moved into a house in the Victoria Road 15 in Bonn district Godesberg residential area . Only in the 2010s did it follow the changed seat of government in the Federal Republic and set up in a villa in Berlin .
The embassy building is located in the Nußbaumallee 4 in the Berlin district Westend the district Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf . In addition to the embassy in Berlin, the Republic of Armenia in Germany also has honorary consulates in Frankfurt am Main , Karlsruhe and Magdeburg .
German diplomatic missions in Armenia
The German embassy in Armenia is located in the capital Yerevan , and the current ambassador has been Michael Banzhaf since 2019 . In addition, the Federal Republic of Germany has had an honorary consulate in Gyumri since January 26, 2018 .
Property
The building was built on what used to be a large garden area that reached as far as Nussbaumallee 1 and belonged to the Privy Medical Councilor Walter Stoeckel .
