The Thai Embassy in Berlin (officially Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand , thai สถาน เอกอัครราชทูต ไทย ณ กรุง เบอร์ลิน ) is the headquarters of the diplomatic representation of Thailand in Germany. Ambassador has been Dhiravat Bhumichitr since August 29, 2016 .

The embassy building is located at Lepsiusstraße 64/66 in the Berlin district of Steglitz in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district .

The embassy in Berlin also reports to honorary consulates in Essen , Hamburg , Munich and Stuttgart . In Frankfurt am Main there is a consulate general that is organized independently of the consular department of the embassy.

history

Thailand is one of Germany's most important political partners in Southeast Asia . Diplomatic relations between the states officially go back to the year 1858, when the Hanseatic cities of Hamburg , Lübeck and Bremen signed the first trade agreement with the Kingdom of Siam . Prince Prisdang Choomsai was sent to Berlin in 1881 as Thailand's first ambassador .

From 1953 until the move to Berlin in 2000, the embassy was located at Ubierstrasse 65 in the Godesberg villa district of the former federal capital Bonn and served as a branch of the embassy until it was sold in 2009.
