Villa Adenauerallee 124 (Bonn)

The building Adenauerallee 124 is a villa in the Bonn district of Gronau , which was built in 1895 and is now used as an office building. It is located on the west side of Adenauerallee ( Bundesstrasse 9 ) at the corner of Joachimstrasse on the outskirts of Südstadt . The villa stands as a monument under monument protection .

history

The building was designed by the Bonn architect Otto Penner (1845–1900) for the merchant Eugen Schuchard. In 1934 it was divided into separate apartments. In 1951 there was a rear extension as well as further apartment separations on the ground floor and the first floor.

After Bonn became the seat of government of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949 , the villa was located on the edge of the new parliament and government district . In 1957 the Republic of Korea (South Korea) established the office of its embassy here , which in 1958 received the status of an embassy . Until the mid-1960s, the villa was also the residence of the embassy, ​​the residence of the ambassador. In the 1960s, this location was the subject of CIA activities under Counselor Yang , which included the kidnapping of Korean citizens. The consular and military departments of the embassy were housed in the chancellery building until the end .

With the relocation of the seat of government , the South Korean embassy moved to Berlin in 1999 , but left a branch in Bonn at a different location. The previous office building was now empty, was acquired by an asset management company and extensively renovated. After being sold again in 2003, the villa's offices now house private companies.

The building was entered in the monuments list of the city of Bonn on September 25, 2000. Also as part of the property under monument protection, the entire fence on the street sides is, while recent additions to the back of the building are not registered as part of the monument.

The building is a two-storey, traufständig situated for Adenauer Allee solid construction with red brick trim and Mansardwalmdach . The original floor plan and the main features of the building have largely been preserved.
