The buildings at Am Südpark 49 and 51 are a group of villas in the Marienburg district of Cologne , which was built between 1922 and 1924. They stand as a monument under monument protection . The group of villas is located directly opposite the south park .

history

The two villas were built for the builders Eduard Meyer (No. 49) and Otto Blumenfeld (No. 51), both members of the board of Hornimport AG , which was also based in Marienburg at the time, based on a design by the architect Georg Falck . Falck's construction company, Rheinische Bauunternehmung GmbH , was responsible for the execution . The villa group was part of an overall plan that also included the villa at Rondorfer Strasse 5, which is adjacent to the south-west and is also built for a board member of Hornimport AG. A plan to convert house no. 51 into an apartment building is known from 1933 (architect: Robert Stern). After 1933 there were various parcels of parcels that impaired the original villa ensemble.

Villa Am Südpark 49 served as the chancellery of the embassy (most recently embassy ) of the Republic of Cuba in the Federal Republic of Germany at the Bonn government seat from 1952 to at least 1960 at the latest (→ list of diplomatic missions ).

The house at Am Südpark 49 (including gardens and connecting tract) was entered in the monuments list of the City of Cologne on March 24, 1982, and that of the house at Am Südpark 51 on December 2, 1983.

architecture

Both villas - two-storey, with plastered facade , hip-roof and connected by a connecting wing that recedes from the building line - are designed differently. Among the similarities heard one, also in the connecting building with its attached pavilion found on such, baroque design language . The Villa Am Südpark 51 has stucco decorations on its five- axis facade that serve as window frames and can be attributed to Expressionism . It is particularly characterized by its entrance portal , which is designed as a semicircular portico and supports a balcony. The special features of the interior include so-called Cologne ceilings . The facade of the Villa Am Südpark 49 has three axes, an ashlar structure and a less pronounced entrance.
