Waldorf is a district of the city of Bornheim in North Rhine-Westphalia , located in the foothills between Kardorf and Dersdorf . The district of Üllekoven on the border with the district of Bisdorf (district of Brenig ) also belongs to Waldorf .

history

In terms of regional politics, Waldorf belonged to the office of Brühl in the Electorate of Cologne until the end of the 18th century and gave its name to the Dingstuhl Waldorf, which included the villages of Hemmerich (with Altenberg), Kardorf, Uellekoven and Waldorf.

From 1974 to 1978, Waldorf (Straufsberg 46) was the residence of the Ambassador of the Republic of El Salvador to the Federal Republic of Germany (→ list of diplomatic missions in Bonn ).

Waldorf is connected to Bonn and Cologne via the tram line 18 ( Vorgebirgsbahn ) . The nearest train stations are Sechtem , Brühl and Roisdorf on the left-hand Rhine route between Cologne and Bonn. The bus route 818 of Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH (RVK) connects Waldorf with Sechtem, Bornheim and Hersel.

Events

  • On the Saturday after Weiberfastnacht, a large carnival procession with self-made carriages and many foot groups from the region moves through the foothills.
  • The Sankt Matthias Brotherhood of Waldorf (founded in 1807) organizes the annual foot pilgrimage to the grave of the Apostle Matthias in Trier . The pilgrimage, documented since 1672, takes place from Ascension Day until the following Sunday.
  • The bachelor club "Eintracht" organizes an annual bachelor party.

Attractions

  • The Catholic parish church of St. Michael with baroque paintings and Gothic Vespers was built according to plans by the architect and Cologne cathedral builder Vincenz Statz .
  • In the 1950s, the area below today's primary school was a garbage dump, which was then converted into a small nature reserve with rare plants, bushes and trees at the end of the 1960s and declared a “school forest”.
