history

overview

Traces of settlement from Roman times have been found in Uedorf (for example a matron stone ). A Roman watchtower is said to have stood on the site of the mill tower. Medieval documents name Uedorf in connection with the monasteries Nonnenwerth (first mentioned: 1143), Heisterbach, Altenberg and Brauweiler. A document from the 13th century shows the place as a parish village. The mill is first mentioned in the middle of the 14th century.

Devastating floods in the Middle Ages (probably 14th century) destroyed the old Uedorf. The Herseler Werth and the bulge of the Rhine to the west go back to these floods. The river bank at the southern end of Römerstraße in Widdig (at the Rheinterrassen), where Widdiger Hauptstraße ends abruptly, is still clearly visible today.

Uedorf belonged to the Electoral Cologne Office Brühl and came in the French period (1794-1814), from 1798, to the Département de la Roer ( Arrondissement de Cologne , Canton Bruhl , Mairie Hersel ). Prussia (from 1815) largely left the French administrative structure. However, the Mairien (mayor's offices, "offices" since 1928) Waldorf, Sechtem and Hersel, and thus also Uedorf, came to the district of Bonn. In 1932 the Hersel Office was incorporated into the Bornheim Office, which emerged from the Waldorf Office. In 1935 the communities Bornheim, Hersel (with Uedorf) and Sechtem emerged from the remaining offices. In 1969 they were combined to form the large community of Bornheim. Bornheim Stadt and Uedorf have been their smallest district since 1981.
