history

From the 5th millennium BC BC ( Latène Age, Younger Iron Age) finds in the area of the former UK , now the Rhineland refinery .

Young axes from the 4th millennium BC Were found in Urfeld in the area of the Rodderweg.

In the 5th century AD, the Franks crossed the Rhine and conquered the areas on the left bank of the Rhine. At that time they called this place "Oruare", which means something like a place where you run over . So there was probably a ferry station in Urfeld in the past that crossed the Rhine.

The Frohnhof zu Urfeld was first mentioned in 1107. A knight Ludovicus de Urvere lived in Urfeld in 1200. Urfeld and the surrounding villages were burned to the ground in 1376 during a jury war. In 1449 Urfeld consisted of 28 houses. A major fire destroyed most of the village in 1590. In 1620, during the Thirty Years' War , the Dutch and Spanish robbed and ravaged the village. In 1659, Urfeld consisted of 50 houses, six farms and two farms. Pastor Hermann Reuter founded a school in Urfeld in 1681.

In 1798, Urfeld belonged to the canton of Brühl in the Arrondissement de Cologne and Département de la Roer , and since 1800 to Mairie Hersel .

In 1815 the Rhineland and with it Urfeld fell to Prussia . The place was assigned to the district of Bonn (from 1887 district of Bonn) in the administrative district of Cologne to the province of Jülich-Kleve-Berg , which was united with the province of Grand Duchy of Lower Rhine to form the Rhine province in 1822 . Urfeld was one of six parishes belonging to the mayor's office in Hersel.

In 1906 Urfeld received a rail connection through the newly built Rheinuferbahn . The water tower was built in 1907. At the census on December 1, 1910, the community had 827 inhabitants.

In 1935 the municipality of Urfeld was merged with the municipalities of Hersel, Uedorf and Widdig, which also belong to the Hersel office, to form the (new) municipality of Hersel. The previous office of Hersel was dissolved and the new municipality was assigned to the Bornheim office. 1937 moved the Hydrierwerk Union Rheinische brown coal fuel AG , or "UK" called, near the outskirts of Urfeld on.

The reclassification of Urfeld from Hersel to Wesseling took place on August 1, 1969 through the law on the municipal reorganization of the Bonn area ( Bonn law ). From January 1, 1975 until the city of Wesseling was reestablished on July 1, 1976, Urfeld belonged to the city of Cologne.

In 1982 the water tower from 1907 was demolished. The Dietkirchener Hof , located on the banks of the Rhine, was the residence of the Royal Dutch Embassy from the 1950s and the residence of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden from 1972 to 1999 .
