Keldenich is a district of the city of Wesseling in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Erft district with 15,906 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018).

The district, which is essentially a residential area , is located southwest of the Wesselingen city center and covers an area of ​​553.58 hectares. Neighboring towns of Keldenich are in the northwest of the Wesselingen district of Berzdorf , in the southwest of the Bornheim district of Sechtem and in the east in turn the Wesselingen district of Urfeld . The Dickopsbach flows on the western edge of the village . The Entenfang nature reserve is located between Keldenich and Berzdorf .

Early, High and Late Middle Ages

Keldenich is first mentioned in a document in 858 . In 1288, the Notre Dame Abbey in Soissons sold their farm in Keldenich to the Cologne citizen Scherfgin. Members of the Scherfgin family were repeatedly mayors or councilors of the city of Cologne.

The area of ​​today's Keldenich formerly also comprised goods such as the Landskronhof (later the Sechtemer Stapelhof), the properties of which partly protruded into the Sechtem district. Since the 13th century, the estates had been in dependent fiefdom under the county of Katzenellenbogen. These gentlemen were followed by the Landgraves of Hesse, who gave Keldenich along with the Sechtemer Stapelhof to the Lords of Dörenberg and Schweinsberg . The latter, Konrad Schenk zu Schweinsberg, was still listed as the owner in 1599.

In 1630, Hesse released the far-flung territory, which, as an exclave surrounded by Kurköln , could not be offered adequate protection in the ongoing warlike times. With the consent of Lord Georg II , Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt, Ludwig and Burkhard von Dörnberg as well as Volpert Daniel Schenk zu Schweinsberg sold the Freiadeligen Güter zu Keldenich and Sechtem to the Chamberlain of Cologne, Adam von Siegenhoven called Anstel zu Holtorf, who also owned Sechtemer Gromeshof owned. Keldenich was one of six parishes belonging to the mayor's office in Hersel. At the census on December 1, 1910, the community had 585 inhabitants.

In 1932 the community of Keldenich was assigned to the newly established Wesseling Office in the Cologne district and incorporated into Wesseling in 1935. From January 1, 1975 until the city of Wesseling regained its independence on June 1, 1976, Keldenich belonged to the city of Cologne.
