Ritch Shydner

Ritchie A. "Ritch" Shydner (born December 3, 1952 in Pennsville, New Jersey ) is an American stand-up comedian, comic book writer and actor . He became known to the German audience primarily through his supporting role as Luke Ventura in the American sitcom Eine terrible Nice Family (original title: Married ... with Children ).

life and career

Ritch Shydner was born in the small town of Pennsville, New Jersey, and studied economics and sociology at Gettysburg College . At Gettysburg College, he and his friend Camillo "Mad-Dog" Melchiorre wrote and produced various comedy skits for parents' weekends and brotherhood events. Carmen "Honest-Abe" Volpecelli and Pluto "Fenderhead" Dombrosky also contributed to their famous used car salesman sketch. Upon graduation, Shydner worked as a substitute teacher in Pennsville and ran a music band. He started working for a congressman, which sparked his interest in law school. As a student at George Mason University in Fairfax , Virginia , he decided to become a stand-up comedian. He began writing and posting material to MAD Magazine and National Lampoon , but met with limited success. Shortly thereafter, Shydner began stand-up comedy.

Career

As a stand-up comedian, Shydner has appeared numerous times on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman . He ran a half-hour HBO special called One Night Stand and was also a guest on Comics Unleashed . Shydner and comedian Mark Schiff compiled the stories of comedians on the street in a book I Killed in 2006 . Shydner starred in the 2010 documentary I Am Comic , in which he toured the country interviewing various comedians. This process ultimately led to his being back on stage after a break of 13 years.

As an actor, Shydner played Al Bundy's colleague and boyfriend Luke Ventura in A Terribly Kind Family and has guested on other television shows such as Designing Women , Roseanne and Dr. Katz, professional therapist . His film roles include Beverly Hills Cop II and Roxanne . Shydner has written on sitcoms such as Roseanne, The Jeff Foxworthy Show, and Titus. He also wrote scripts for the sitcom Becker . He also wrote for the singers Kenny Rogers and Pam Tillis and for the ventriloquist David Strassman. Shydner's influences are Art Carney , Lenny Bruce , Red Skelton and George Carlin .
