from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German theater lexicon is according to its subtitle " biographical and bibliographical manual". The lexicon lists stage artists from German-speaking countries.

The German National Library has the German Theater Lexicon under the citation form “Kosch Theater” in the list of “Technical reference works for the common authority file ”.

history

The manual was founded in 1951 by Wilhelm Kosch and continued from the third volume by Hanspeter Bennwitz and Ingrid Bigler-Marschall . From 1953 to 2012 seven volumes were published (from volume 1: A – Hurk to volume 7: Wolbring – Zysset ), plus eight supplementary volumes from 2013 to 2020.

The "German Theater Lexicon" wants to provide information not only about the elements that make up the concept of the stage in their entirety, but rather about the life and work of performing artists, playwrights and composers, critics, researchers, about masterpieces of the repertoire material motifs, about important theater cities and their organs. Extensive bibliographies complete the main text. The main emphasis is placed on recording the bio- and bibliographical material that can be obtained as completely as possible. However, subjective evaluations should be avoided.

Up to the second volume the work was published by Kleinmayr Verlag (Klagenfurt and Vienna). The following volumes were published by Francke (Bern), Saur (Zurich and Munich) and De Gruyter (Berlin)
