Ernö Weil

Ernö Weil (born March 27, 1947 in Munich ) is a German musicologist, artistic director and director .

Life

Ernö Weil grew up in Munich and studied musicology and opera directing at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and the Musikhochschule. Before his first permanent position at Theater Augsburg in 1971 and his directorial debut in 1973 with Lucia di Lammermoor, he assisted directors such as August Everding . 1974–1977 he also worked with him at the Bayreuth Festival as assistant and director for Tristan and Isolde . In 1986 he was appointed senior director in Pforzheim and in 1988 as director of the Landestheater Coburg . This was followed by a five-year artistic directorship in Pforzheim and from 2002 to 2012 Weil was director of the Regensburg Theater . Here he staged operas and musicals such as Falstaff , My fair Lady and Die tote Stadt , but also premieres such as Der Hutmacher . Since the end of the 2011/2012 season he has been working as a freelance director again.

Weil is married to the soprano Mechthild Gessendorf -Weil and lives in Regensburg .
