Adriano Zanetti

Adriano Zanetti (born April 29, 1950 ) is an Italian entomologist and teacher .

Life

At the age of 15, Zanetti began collecting short-winged birds in the province of Verona , and at 18 he began to do scientific work on short-winged birds. He has put together a private collection that includes 12,149 specimens of 654 species.

From 1974 to 2007 he was a biology teacher at various high schools. He has since retired and is fully focused on his research at the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Verona . His research interests are in the short-winged birds of Italy, the Omaliinae of the Palearctic and the global biodiversity of the genus Eusphalerum .

In 1975 his book Il mondo degli insetti was published , which was also published in the German translation Die Welt der Insekten . In 1987 he published the book Fauna d'Italia. Coleoptera, Staphylinidae Omaliinae . In 1988 he was involved in The Macdonald Encyclopedia of Butterflies and Moths by Mauro Daccordi and Paolo Triberti. He also wrote a number of revisions to the genus Eusphalerum . His other articles, of which he has published over 100, include articles on the Italian short-winged species, in particular on the genera Philonthus , Quedius , Acrolocha , Boreaphilus , Omalium and Hapalaraea . In 2000 he wrote the sections on the families Micropeplidae and Staphylinidae in the Checklist delle specie della fauna italiana

Zanetti described over 60 species. In 1982 he established the monotypical genus Osellia , which was synonymous with the genus Orochares Kraatz in 1993 by Margaret K. Thayer .
