Luigi Bressan (born February 9, 1940 in Sarche , Calavino ) is an Italian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Trento .

Life

The Archbishop of Trento, Alessandro Maria Gottardi , ordained him as a priest on June 28, 1964 .

He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and in 1983 the Pope appointed him special envoy to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on April 3, 1989 titular archbishop pro hac vice of Severiana and apostolic pro-nuncio in Pakistan . The Cardinal Secretary of State and Cardinal Prefect of the Administration of Goods of the Apostolic See , Agostino Casaroli , donated him episcopal ordination on June 18 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were José Tomás Sánchez , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , and Giovanni Maria Sartori , Archbishop of Trent. As a motto he chose Servire .

On July 26, 1993, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Singapore and Thailand and Apostolic Delegate to Malaysia , Laos and Myanmar . On July 16, 1994 he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Cambodia . On March 25, 1999, he was appointed Archbishop of Trento and on May 30 of the same year he was appointed to the office.

On February 10, 2016, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
