Bolesław Pylak (born August 20, 1921 in Lopiennik Górny , Lublin Voivodeship , Poland; † June 6, 2019 in Lublin ) was a Polish clergyman, university professor and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Lublin .

Life

In 1943 Bolesław Pylak joined the Lublin Seminary, which at that time was located in Krężnica Jara . The Bishop of Lublin, Stefan Wyszyński , ordained him on June 29, 1948 . In 1949 he began studying at the theological faculty of the Catholic University of Lublin, received his doctorate in dogmatic theology in 1953 and was assistant at the chair for dogmatic theology of the theological faculty. He also led courses at the seminary in Lublin. From 1959 he was deputy director of the seminar.

In 1969 he completed his habilitation in the field of dogmatic theology. After the appointment of an associate professor, he became head of the department of dogmatic theology. From 1978 Pylak was an associate professor and from 1988 full professor of theology in Lublin. He has authored books and a number of dissertations and articles.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 14, 1966 titular bishop of Midica and auxiliary bishop in Lublin. He was ordained episcopal on May 29th of the same year by the Bishop of Lublin, Piotr Kałwa ; Co- consecrators were Ignacy Tokarczuk , Bishop of Przemyśl , and Jan Mazur , Auxiliary Bishop in Lublin. On June 27, 1975 he was by Paul VI. appointed Bishop of Lublin and with the elevation to the Archbishopric he became the first Archbishop of Lublin on March 25, 1992. He was also Grand Chancellor of the Catholic University of Lublin from 1975 to 1997.

On June 14, 1997, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation due to reasons of age.

He finds his grave in the crypt of St. John's Cathedral in Lublin.
