Jan Mazur (born June 5, 1920 in Płoskie near Zamość , Lublin Voivodeship , † September 26, 2008 in Siedlce ) was Bishop of Siedlce.

Life

Jan Mazur came from a farming family and studied from 1944 to 1949 at the episcopal seminary in Krężnica Jara . He was ordained a priest on June 26, 1949 by Bishop Zdzisław Goliński . From 1949 to 1952 he was pastor in Bychawa and in Lublin-Zemborzyce, one of the oldest parishes in the Archdiocese of Lublin. At the same time he studied at the Catholic University of Lublin and received his doctorate in 1956 . He then taught metaphysics and pastoral theology as well as Latin at the Seminary in Lublin . He also worked for the archdiocese as secretary of the pastoral department.

Pope John XXIII appointed him titular bishop of Bladia in 1961 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Lublin. The episcopal ordination donated him on August 6, 1961 the Bishop of Lublin Piotr Kałwa ; Co-consecrators were Zdzisław Goliński, Bishop of Częstochowa, and Tomasz Wilczyński , Auxiliary Bishop in Lublin. Act

As Bishop of Siedlce he was the initiator of numerous building projects. During his tenure, 54 new churches, 110 chapels and 144 community centers were built, as well as the expansion of the seminary in Siedlce.

Mazur was the driving force behind the beatification of the Pratulin martyrs .
