Sebastian Tromp

Sebastian Kornelius Petrus Tromp (born March 16, 1889 in Beek near Ubbergen , Netherlands ; † February 8, 1975 in Rome ) was a Jesuit, priest of the Roman Catholic Church and Dutch theologian .

Life

Tromp joined the Order of the Jesuits (SJ) in 1907 . After studying philosophy (1910–1913) and classical philology (1913–1920), Tromp completed specializing in fundamental theology . From 1926 to 1929 he taught in Maastricht and from 1929 to 1965 he was a lecturer in fundamental theology and the history of religion at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was papal adviser and is considered one of the co-authors of the encyclical Mystici Corporis of Pius XII.

Second Vatican Council

Before the Second Vatican Council , Tromp was a member of the Preparatory Commission and during the Council of the Theological Commission, of which he was secretary from the end of October 1963. In addition, he was a member of other individual commissions, such as the mixed commission for drafting the Constitution Dei verbum . He was instrumental in the formulation “subsistit in”. Tromp wrote a meticulously kept council diary in Latin.
