Antonios Naguib
Antonios Cardinal Naguib (born March 18, 1935 in Samalout , Egypt ) is Patriarch Emeritus of Alexandria of the Coptic Catholic Church united with Rome .
Life
Antonios Naguib studied in Rome from 1953 to 1958 and was ordained a priest in 1960 . On July 2, 1977, he was elected Bishop of the Minya Eparchy , which he remained until his resignation for health reasons in 2002. On March 30, 2006, he was elected by the Synod of the Coptic Catholic Bishops to succeed Stephanos II. Cardinal Ghattas CM . On April 6, 2006, the Roman Pope Benedict XVI. as provided for in the CCEO , in a personal letter to the church community ( communio ). On May 1, 2006, he was enthroned in the Coptic Catholic Cathedral in Cairo. In the solemn consistory of November 20, 2010 Benedict XVI took him. as Cardinal Bishop in the College of Cardinals .
In early 2012, Antonios Naguib suffered a stroke; on February 6, the Synod of the Coptic Catholic Church appointed Kyrillos Kamal William Samaan OFM, Bishop of the Assiut Eparchy , as his deputy with full decision-making power. On January 18, 2013, Antonios Naguib resigned as Patriarch of Alexandria. In 2013 he took part in the conclave in which Pope Francis was elected.
