The University of Camerino ( Italian Università degli Studi di Camerino ; Latin Siciliae Studium Generale ) is a university in Camerino in the Marche region , Italy . It is considered one of the oldest universities in the world.

history

On January 29, 1377, Pope Gregory XI secured . Camerino to be allowed to found a university. Mainly jurisprudence was taught . First evidence of a university in Camerino goes back to the year 1336.

The university was officially recognized in 1727 by Pope Benedict XIII.

After the annexation of Marken by Italy in 1860, the university was considered a "free university". It became a state university in 1958.
