The Politecnico di Bari ("Bari Polytechnic") is a state technical university founded in 1990 with headquarters in Bari in southern Italy and branches in Foggia and Taranto ( Apulia ).
Organization and range of courses
The Politecnico is divided into five departments (dipartimenti) :
- Dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica e dell'Informazione (DEI) (Electrical Engineering and Information Technology)
- Dipartimento di Ingegneria Meccanica, Matematica e Management (DMMM) (Mechanics, Mathematics and Management)
- Dipartimento Interateneo di Fisica (DIF) (Physics for all departments)
- Dipartimento di Scienze dell'Ingegneria Civile e dell'Architettura (DICAR) (engineering and architecture)
- Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile, Ambientale, del Territorio, Edile e di Chimica (DICATECH) (civil engineering, environment and chemistry)
There is also a language center and the Centro Interdipartimentale Magna Graecia .
The range of courses in 2016 comprised eleven engineering bachelor 's programs (laurea triennale) , ten master’s programs (laurea magistrale biennale) and two non-consecutive masters (laurea magistrale a ciclo unico) . In addition, there are several Masters in continuing education and various Ph.D. Programs.
history
The Politecnico was created on the basis of a law of August 7, 1990. The two long-established northern Italian technical universities in Milan and Turin were to be supplemented by another state university of this type in southern Italy. For this purpose, the Faculty of Engineering, founded in 1944, and the Faculty of Architecture, which was established in 1989, were spun off from the University of Bari and placed under the new Polytechnic. The impetus for this step was in particular the good reputation of the engineering faculty on which the Politecnico di Bari was able to build. In 1991 the Politecnico founded another engineering faculty in Taranto. Due to a higher education reform law of 2010, the Politecnico gave up the previous faculty structure and was divided into five Dipartimenti . In the SCImago institutions ranking 2012 , the Politecino di Bari ranked ahead of the two competitors from Milan and Turin.
