Maria Domenica Melone SFA, (born August 16, 1964 in La Spezia ) is an Italian religious and theologian.

Life

After graduating from high school, Sister Mary Melone joined the Congregation of the Suore Francescane Angeline (" Angeline Franciscan Sisters"), where she took the religious name Maria Domenica . In 1986 she made her temporary profession and in 1991 she made perpetual vows.

Sr. Maria Domenica studied pedagogy at the Roman Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta (LUMSA) from 1987 to 1992 and theology at the Pontifical University of Antonianum from 1983 to 1987 . In 2000 she received her doctorate from Vincenzo Battaglia with her thesis on the Trinity with Richard von St. Viktor as a Doctor theologiae .

From 2002 to 2008 she was director of the National Institute for Religious Studies Redemptor Hominis at the Antonianum (Istituto Superiore di Scienze Religiose Redemptor Hominis). From 2004 to 2010 she was also a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society for Theological Research (SIRT).

Sr. Maria Domenica has been Professor of Trinity Theology and Pneumatology at the Pontifical University Antonianum since March 2nd, 2011, and Dean of the Faculty of Theology since 2011. On June 14, 2014, she was appointed Rector of the Antonianum Pontifical University for the period 2014-2017 by the Congregation for Catholic Education . She is the first female rector of a Pontifical University in Rome. On July 16, 2014, she was called by Pope Francis to be Consultor in the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life . On February 1, 2020, the Pope appointed her Consultor of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints .
