The University of Pardubice (Czech: Univerzita Pardubice ) emerged in 1994 from the Chemical University founded in 1950. Today the university consists of 5 faculties with around 7,000 students enrolled.

History of origin

The beginnings of the University of Pardubice can be traced back to the chemical industry in Pardubice , which still shapes the townscape today. In 1950 the forerunner of the University of Pardubice - the University of Chemistry in Pardubice (Vysoká škola chemická v Pardubicích) was founded. In its first three years this facility was part of the Prague Technical University (ČVUT) and was headed by a dean . From 1953 the university existed as an independent chemical-technological university in Pardubice under the direction of a rector . In 1991, the chemical-technological faculty and today's faculty for economics and administration were founded. The university was transformed into a two-faculty university. In 1993 the Faculty of Transportation Science " Jan Perner " was added. Since 1994 the university has been called the University of Pardubice . In 2001 the Faculty of Humanistic Sciences was opened. In 2005 the Faculty of Restoration in Litomyšl was established , in 2007 the Faculty of Health Sciences and in 2008 the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
