The Pontifical Catholic University "Mater et Magistra" ( Spanish : Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra , PUCMM for short , also UCMM or La Puca ) in the Dominican Republic is the country's first private university . It was founded on September 9, 1962 by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Dominican Republic with the main campus in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros and two branches in Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata .
After the end of the dictatorship of President Rafael Leonidas Trujillo , she was named after the encyclical Mater et Magistra of Pope John XXIII. Called Madre y Maestra .
On the basis of Law No. 6150 of December 31, 1962, the Dominican government granted the university the right to train professions and master’s courses such as industrial engineer, electrical engineer, civil engineer, business consultancy, business management, telematics engineer, medicine, law, architecture, economics, marketing, publicity. The academic offer is divided into the following faculties: Facultad de Ciencias de las Ingenierías , Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud , Facultad de Ciencias Sociales y Administrativas and the Facultad de Ciencias y Humanidades .
The motto is Veritas et Scientia ("Truth and Science").
