The Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador ( Spanish : Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador , short: PUCE ) is a private, full Catholic university sponsored by the Jesuits in Ecuador .
Organization and locations
The university was founded in central Quito in 1946 and gradually expanded. In addition to the headquarters in Quito, there are campuses in Ibarra , Santo Domingo de los Colorados , Ambato , Esmeraldas and the province of Manabí , and until 1990 also in Cuenca . The legal entity of the association is the Sistema Nacional Universitario Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (SINAPUCE) (German: National University System of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador ). The college has a 2013 budget of $ 71.8 million , of which $ 13.8 million comes from government grants.
Grand Chancellor is the Archbishop of Quito, Fausto Trávez Trávez , Rector is Fernando Ponce León, SJ. In July 2015 Pope Francis visited the university on his trip to Ecuador.

The PUCE publishes a large number of scientific journals. The PUCE is affiliated to a cultural center with changing exhibitions, concerts and lectures.
