Alfons Riedl

Alfons Riedl (born September 12, 1937 in Kastl , Upper Palatinate , † February 21, 2008 in Linz ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and moral theologian .

Life

Alfons Riedl entered the Eichstätter seminary after attending school in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz and Eichstätt . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1963 . He initially worked in pastoral care, and from 1965 studied moral theology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1978 he was in Bonn with the work "The Church's teaching authority in matters of morality according to the statements of the First Vatican Council" to Dr. theol. PhD .

In 1979, he received a call to a professor of moral theology at the then Pontifical Theological University Linz, today's Catholic Theological Private University Linz (KTU) , and Chairman of the Institute of Moral Theology. He was its Rector from 1992 to 1994 and its Pro-Rector from 1994 to 1998. From 1992 he was also involved in the Vienna Theological Courses. In 2002 he retired .

Since 1982 Riedl has also been a judge at the Diocesan Court of the Diocese of Linz and, after his retirement from 2003 to 2007, Chairman of the Arbitration Board of the Diocese of Linz. In 2003 he was appointed Episcopal Vicar by Bishop Maximilian Aichern with the responsibility for "adult education and pastoral training"; he was thus also a member of the episcopal consistory in Linz.

Alfons Riedl was instrumental in the beatification of Franz Jägerstätter .

Monsignor Alfons Riedl died after a short illness on February 21, 2008 in Linz.
