Ewald Volgger

Ewald Volgger OT (born October 6, 1961 in Bruneck , South Tyrol ) is a Roman Catholic religious as well as a theologian and liturgical scholar . He was Rector of the Catholic Private University Linz (2010–2014).

Life

After graduating from the state teacher training institute in Bruneck in 1979/80, Ewald Volgger was an elementary school teacher at the Goetheschule in Bozen . In 1980 he joined the Teutonic Order , and Volgger completed his novitiate with the then novice master Bruno Platter in Bolzano. He studied from 1981 to 1983 at the Philosophical-Theological University of Brixen and from 1983 to 1987 at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna . In 1985 he made his profession . After a research assistant at the University of Vienna, he was ordained a priest on June 28, 1987 . He was a chaplain in Sarnthein in South Tyrol. In 1993 he was in Vienna with a dissertation about the celebration of Good Friday at Amalar from Metz to Dr. theol. PhD .

After studying for a year in Rome, he was a lecturer in liturgical science at the Philosophical-Theological University of Brixen from 1994 to 1999, where he was appointed professor in 1999 . He also taught at the Higher Institute for Theological Education (Istituto Superiore di Scienze Religiose) and at the Brixen theological courses. He was a lecturer in liturgy at the church music school in Brixen (1998–2003) and Meran (2001–2003). In 2000 he was also appointed professor for theology of the sacraments in Brixen.

In 2003 he was appointed to the board of directors at the Institute for Liturgical Studies and Sacraments at the Catholic Private University in Linz. Since September 1, 2010, e has been Michael Rosenberger's successor .

Ewald Volgger was Secretary General of the Teutonic Order from 2000 to 2014.

The main teaching and research focus of Volgger are the heortology , the baptistery , the sacraments as well as the history, theology and liturgy of the sacrament of penance , as well as the history , spirituality and rules of the Teutonic Order.

He is a member of the Liturgy Commission for Austria as well as the Diocese of Linz and the Diocese of Bozen-Brixen (Chair), as well as the Liturgy Commission of the Teutonic Order (Chair).

In 2020 Volgger published the book The benediction of same sex partnerships , which contains liturgical proposals for the public blessing of relationships of the same sex.
