The Medical University of Sofia ( Bulgarian : Медицинският университет в София ) is a 1917 by I. Ferdinand founded Medical University in the Bulgarian capital Sofia . Today it is divided into four faculties; The rector of the university is Wanjo Mitew.

history

Initially there was a medical faculty at Sofia University . In 1950 it was spun off from Sofia University and converted into the Sofia Medical Academy (Медицинска Академия София). Marko Markow became the leader. In 1950, the Medical Training Institute was also founded, which is now Queen Joan's Hospital (Царица Йоанна).

In 1954 the Sofia Medical Academy was converted into a Medical College. In 1972, after a major reorganization, it became the Sofia Medical Academy again . In 1990 the Sofia Medical Academy was dissolved and instead its individual medical institutes became independent medical higher education institutions. The organizational form in faculties was reintroduced.

The university has four faculties :

By resolution of the Bulgarian Parliament on May 21, 1995, the Sofia Medical University was renamed the Sofia Medical University . Three medical schools (колеж) are affiliated to the university. The university has 14 university hospitals - including the Aleksandrowska hospital.

As is generally the case in medical training, the training is divided into a pre-clinical and clinical part .

There are 1,969 employees (university professors, research assistants, assistants) and approx. 4,000 students - including 800 foreign students and 120 doctoral students . 2,200 doctors are completing their specialist training at the Sofia Medical University. Research grants are awarded.

In October 2016, the Cologne company StudiMed opened a branch of the university in Cologne.
