The University of Shumen ( Bulgarian Шуменски университет ) was founded as a pedagogical college in the northern Bulgarian city ​​of Shumen in 1971 and expanded into a university in 1995. The university bears the name of Archbishop Konstantin Preslawski (bugl. Епископ Константин Преславски / Episkop Konstantin Preslawski) founder of the medieval writing school of Preslaw , where the Cyrillic alphabet was created around the middle of the 10th century .

The university is divided into five faculties:

  • Faculty of Humanities
  • Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science
  • Faculty of Science
  • Faculty of Engineering
  • Faculty of Education

There is also a college in Dobrich and a department for information and teacher training in Varna .

The university is a member of the network of Balkan universities (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Kosovo, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro).
