The University of Food Technology was founded as the Institute of Food Production in the city of Plovdiv in 1953 and expanded into a university in 2003.

The university is divided into three faculties:

  • Faculty of Technology
  • Faculty of Technology
  • Faculty of Economics

There are also departments for language training, physical education and sports.

The university is a member of the network of Balkan universities (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Kosovo, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro).
