The Plovdiv University "Paisii Hilendarski" ( Bulgarian Пловдивски университет "Паисий Хилендарски" , Plovdiwski uniwersitet "Paissij Chilendarski" ) is a university in Bulgaria. It is the second largest university in Bulgaria after the University of Sofia and was founded in 1961. At first it was referred to as a university for natural sciences and mathematics, one year later (1962) as a university. In 2018, over 60 educational programs in the fields of economics , natural sciences and social sciences will be offered.
history
The university is named after Païssi von Hilandar . In 1973 it became the first institution in Plovdiv to offer undergraduate programs in literature and linguistics. In 1984 and 1994 the faculties in Education and Business were introduced. The university also consists of the Technical College in Smolyan and two other branches also outside Plovdiv - in Smolyan and Kardzhali .
