Tracy Lawrence
Tracy Lawrence (born January 27, 1968 in Atlanta , Texas ) is an American country singer.
Life
Lawrence grew up in a large family in rural Arkansas . He sang in the church choir and learned to play the guitar. In 1988 he dropped out of college to join a band as a lead singer. Two years later he moved to Nashville to gain a foothold in the local music scene. As an unknown young musician, he initially had to keep his head above water with odd jobs. He generated additional income by successfully participating in talent competitions. After a few months he got an engagement on a local radio show. A little later he signed a record deal with the Atlantic label .
Career
In the first months of 1991, his debut album was produced. On May 31, 1991, Lawrence, accompanied by an acquaintance, was attacked by three teenage muggers and shot four times. Thanks to this additional publicity, his first single Sticks And Stones quickly reached number one on the country charts. The album of the same name sold over a million times.
In 1992 he went on extensive tours. That year he received the ACM Award for the best young musician. His second album, Alibis , released in 1993, quickly reached platinum status and then double platinum in 1995. Three single releases made it to number one on the country charts. With his third album I See It Now he reached platinum again. Tracy Lawrence proved to be a serious competitor to superstars Garth Brooks , Alan Jackson, and George Strait . With the singles Texas Tornado 1995 and with Time Marches On 1996 further number 1 hits were achieved.
In 1997 he made negative headlines when his newly wedded wife reported him for assault. There followed a temporary suspension of his record contract. But by mid-1998 it was back in the charts. From the mid-1990s, Lawrence began working as a producer. If he initially participated in the creation of his own albums, he later also produced other musicians. Lawrence is also involved in charity events such as The Annual Better Life Foundation.
At the beginning of 2007 his album "For The Love" came out, on which a duet with the "3 Doors Down" singer Brad Arnold can be found.
