Homer Carroll "Doc" Ledbetter (* 25. January 1910 in Huntsville , Arkansas ; † 22. October 1946 in Raton , New Mexico ) was an American American football - and baseball poker players. He played, among other things, as a fullback with the Chicago Cardinals in the National Football League (NFL).
Player career
Homer Ledbetter studied at the University of Arkansas and played from 1929 to 1931 for the local football team , the Arizona Razorbacks . He has received three college awards for his sporting achievements . In 1932, Doc Ledbetter joined the Staten Island Stapletons . The team around Ken Strong , Oran Pape and Stu Clancy had had financial difficulties for some time and stopped playing in the current season. Ledbetter then moved to the Chicago Cardinals. Both in the 1932 season and in the 1933 season the team from Chicago was unsuccessful. Ledbetter ended his career as a professional football player. His plan to get a contract as a baseball player with the Cincinnati Reds failed. He therefore played baseball for various minor league teams from 1935 to 1937 .
After the playing career
Homer Ledbetter joined the United States Army after his playing career . He served as Lieutenant Colonel in the 11th Infantry Regiment in the European theater of war during World War II . Ledbetter was awarded the Croix de guerre . After his military service, Doc Ledbetter took over the management of the State Police of New Mexico on January 1, 1946 . He died in a traffic accident while returning from a hunting expedition and was buried in Rogers Cemetery in Rogers , Arkansas.
