The Wiederitz (from Upper Sorbian Wydrica ) is a tributary of the United Weißeritz and is located in the area of the cities of Wilsdruff and Freital in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains in Saxony . It is a north-west-south-east running creek about ten kilometers long that drains the north-western part of the Döhlen basin .

course

The headwaters of the Wiederitz are located in the southern area of the village of Kesselsdorf . It runs there in a flat valley where the stream winds in small meanders . From the outskirts of the Freital district of Wurgwitz , the body of water runs partially covered after it has absorbed other small bodies of water such as the Oberhermsdorfer Bach .

In the area of the Alt-Zauckerode district, a retention basin is used for flood protection. Other tributaries also flow there: the Weißiger Bach combined with the Quänebach from the right and the Hammerbach from the left. Below the Great Ternickel, on the left-hand side, the Wiederitz receives the mine water exiting the Claus-Stolln , which is colored red by ocher .

In the further course of the course, the water is oriented towards the northern edge of the Döhlen basin ( Sauberg ) before it enters the valley floor area of the Vereinigte Weißeritz near the Freital-Potschappel train station , from where the water flows to about 400 m below Dresdner Straße runs completely channeled. It flows into the Weißeritz near the “ Golden Lion ”.

use

The Niederhermsdorfer coal branch line ran in the Wiederitz valley from 1856 and the narrow-gauge Freital-Potschappel – Nossen line from 1886 to 1973 . Today the former railway line, starting at the Freital-Potschappel train station to Kesselsdorf, has been developed as a cycle and footpath free from other traffic.

Parallel to Wiederitz that ran smear of coal -Hauptflözes in Döhlen Basin . On the right bank in particular, there was a lot of mining, initially in peasant pits and later in large-scale operations. Important shafts in the Wiederitztal were the Albert shaft in Niederhermsdorf and the Oppel shaft in Zauckerode.

Flood

Due to the regular floods after heavy rain events in the northern area of the Döhlen basin, a retention basin was created in the 1970s between the Zauckerode and Wurgwitz locations. There is also a level of the special measuring network of the Saxon flood center. During the floods in August 2002 , the river Wiederitz also led to considerable flooding in the city districts.
