NBA career

In the 2011 NBA draft , Thompson was selected in 11th place by the Golden State Warriors . He came off the bench at the beginning of his rookie season. After the seeded starter Monta Ellis changed in the middle of the season, Thompson moved up for him on the starting line-up. The Guard immediately impressed as a reliable distance shooter. In his freshman year he scored 12.5 points per game and was called up to the NBA All-Rookie First Team .

Thompson in his second professional season

In his sophomore year, Thompson formed one of the league's most dangerous backcourts with Stephen Curry . Together they converted 483 three-point throws , more than any other duo in the league. Thompson achieved career highs on May 8, 2013 against the San Antonio Spurs with 34 points and 14 rebounds . He met 8 of his 9 triple attempts. He finished the season improved with 16.6 points per game.

In the first game of the new 2013/14 season , Thompson set a new career record in a 125: 94 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers with 38 points. With 18.4 points per game he was the best warrior shooter after Curry.

On October 31, 2014, Thompson extended his contract with the Warriors for four more years. One day after signing the contract, Thompson set a new career record with 41 points against the Los Angeles Lakers. He was able to improve this again on January 23, 2015 with 52 points against the Sacramento Kings , with 37 points in the third quarter alone. The 37 points in a quarter are NBA records. He also hit 9 three-point throws in 9 attempts, which is also an NBA record. A short time later, Thompson was invited to the NBA All-Star Game for the first time .

The 2014/15 season closed the Warriors with a franchise record of 67 wins and went into the playoffs as the best team . Thompson played a big part in this success, contributing 21.7 points per game. In the playoffs Thompson defeated the Warriors, the New Orleans Pelicans , the Memphis Grizzlies , the Houston Rockets and finally the Cleveland Cavaliers in the finals and could look forward to his first NBA title. In the 2015/16 season, Thompson was again All-Star. With the Warriors he reached 73 victories of the season, which broke the record of the Chicago Bulls from the 1995/96 season. Again the NBA finals were reached, where Thompson and the Warriors were defeated by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
