Thaddeus Charles Young Sr. (born June 21, 1988 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Chicago Bulls in the NBA . Before starting his professional career, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and studied management .

Childhood and high school

Young was born in New Orleans to Lula Hall and Felton Young. When he was in fourth grade, the family moved to Memphis , Tennessee . His father played for Jacksonville University from 1976 to 1978 and was selected by the Buffalo Braves in 1978 in the NBA Draft .

Young didn't start playing basketball until eighth grade, but then quickly developed into a promising junior player at Mitchell High School . He was elected to the All-State Team three times, was named "TSSAA Class AA Mr. Basketball" in 2005, Tennessee High School Player of the Year in 2006 and was elected to the McDonalds High School American team. He also led the team in 2006 to the "TSSAA Class AA Final", where they competed against the Liberty Technology Magnet High School.

As a senior, Young achieved 26.9 points, 13.8 rebounds , 4.1 assists , 4.3 steals and 3.6 blocks per game. He was considered an outstanding athlete and good student. He achieved a grade point average ( GPA ) of 4.3 - the maximum is 5.0. After high school, he was considered one of the most sought-after players for the college teams.

college

Young was the youngest player of all freshmen in 2006. In his first season at the Georgia Institute of Technology, he achieved 14.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per encounter. He hit 47.8% of his field throws and 41.9% of his triple attempts.

Young then signed up for  the NBA draft proceedings .

NBA career

Young was selected twelfth by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2007 NBA Draft . On July 11, 2007, he signed the contract with the Sixers. Young played little at the start of his first NBA season. His rookie colleague Jason Smith, on the other hand, was used much more often. In his first game on November 7, 2007, he scored his first points in a 94:63 win of the 76ers over the Charlotte Bobcats . He finished his debut with 6 points and 3 rebounds.

After General Manager Ed Stefanski Kyle Korver surrendered as part of a swap deal, Young received longer hours and took turns with Reggie Evans in the initial line-up. Over his entire rookie season, Young averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. On average, he received 22 minutes of playing time per game. He played a total of 74 games and was in the "top five" 22 times. His best career performance in points he achieved on March 9, 2008 against the Milwaukee Bucks when he scored 22 points.

As his stats improved towards the end of the rookie season, his sophomore season was expected to keep increasing stats. With an average of 15.3 points and 5.0 rebounds, he was able to meet expectations. His new career high of 31 points he reached on March 13, 2009 against the Chicago Bulls. He was voted into the sophomore selection of the NBA Rookie Challenge .

The 76ers also reached the play-offs , where Young scored an average of 12.0 points and 4.5 rebounds. However, the Sixers lost in the first round 2: 4 against the eventual finalist, Orlando Magic .

Young played for the Sixers until 2014. He had his best year in the 2013/14 season when he averaged 17.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.1 steals. However, the Sixers finished the season in penultimate place in the Eastern Conference. As part of the rebuild at the Sixers, Young was transferred to the Minnesota Timberwolves in August 2014 .

In February 2015, he moved to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Kevin Garnett . In the summer of 2015, he initially got out of the contract with the Nets, but announced his contract extension shortly thereafter. In summer 2016 he was transferred to the Indiana Pacers for the draft rights to Caris LeVert . He reached the playoffs twice in a row at the Pacers as a regular player.

During the 2019 summer break, Young was signed by the Chicago Bulls .
