Grade Point Average

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grade Point Average ( GPA ) is a number used primarily in US education that is roughly equivalent to a grade point average . This is based on the US grading system, whereby a point value is assigned to each individual grade and a weighted arithmetic mean , the Grade Point Average , is calculated from these point values .

The following assignment is often used:

grade ..4 ..5
A. 4th 5
B. 3 4th
C. 2 3
D. 1 1
F. 0 0
F- or G
(if used)
-1

The classification, according to which the best grade point average can be 5.0, was introduced by some high schools in order to “visually improve” the grades of their graduates. The other assignment, according to which the best grade point average can be 4.0, is older and dominant.

Because the best grade point average may be even 5.0 and even 4.0, and the same from the personnel departments of the company has been noted often in request to the Grade Point Average values are given for both calculation systems. The requirement “ GPA ≥ 3.0 / 4.0 ” does not mean that the grade point average should be greater than ¾, but that it may be a maximum of one point value below the maximum possible grade point average .
