Jason Victor Smith (born March 2, 1986 in Greeley , Colorado ) is an American basketball player who was last under contract with the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA .
Career
college
Smith played for Colorado State University . There he was able to reach 10.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 24.4 minutes per game in his freshman season . In his sophomore year he was able to increase this again and scored 16.2 points in 28.7 minutes per game, while he also had 2.1 blocks .
In his junior season, and at the same time his last at college, he played around two minutes more and achieved 0.6 points per game more than in the previous year, plus 10.1 rebounds per game. By the time Smith left college and moved to the NBA, he had the sixth most rebounds , fifth most blocks and second most double doubles in Colorado State University history.
NBA
Smith was selected in the 2007 NBA draft in 20th place by the Miami Heat and shortly thereafter transferred to the Philadelphia 76ers . In his first season for the Sixers, he played 76 games, averaging 4.5 points and 3 rebounds per game.
The 2008/09 season he had to sit out due to injury.
The following season was solid for Smith, albeit unspectacular. He scored 3.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. After the season he was given to the New Orleans Hornets together with Willie Green in exchange for Craig Brackins and Darius Songaila .
His first season with the Hornets was similar to the previous two; he was able to achieve an average of 4.3 points per game. In his second season, however, he got more playing time from the start and quickly became an important part of his team. Smith had a throw rate of 52% and scored 9.9 points per game. He was used in 40 games, 29 of which he was in the starting five .
For the 2014/15 season , Smith moved within the league and signed a contract with the New York Knicks . After a year in New York, he signed a one-year contract with Orlando Magic in the summer of 2015 . After a year with the Magic, Smith moved to the Washington Wizards in the summer .
In December 2018, Smith was transferred to the Milwaukee Bucks in a three-team deal . After a season at the Bucks, Smith was briefly active for the New Orleans Pelicans in the spring of 2019 .
