Darius Songaila (born February 14, 1978 in Marijampolė ) is a former Lithuanian basketball player. the 2.06 m Power Forward was active in the NBA from 2003 to 2011 . Most recently he was under contract with Žalgiris Kaunas .
Career
society
From 1998 to 2002, Songaila played for the Wake Forest University team in the NCAA . He was selected in the second round of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics , but completed the following season at CSKA Moscow . In the NBA, he played two years for the Sacramento Kings , with whom he reached the NBA play-offs twice , and then one year for the Chicago Bulls . From 2006 to 2009 Songaila was active with the Washington Wizards , for which he was only able to appear from the middle of the season due to a back operation. Nevertheless, in that season, as in the following season, he reached the play-offs with the Wizards. Songaila then worked for the New Orleans Hornets and the Philadelphia 76ers for a year.
After he had barely got any playing time in the NBA, Songaila moved back to Europe in 2011. After working in Turkey ( Galatasaray Istanbul ), Spain ( CB Valladolid ) and the Ukraine ( BK Donetsk ), he returned to Lithuania in 2013, where he initially worked for Lietuvos rytas Vilnius .
Lithuanian national basketball team
Songaila was active for the Lithuanian national team from 1998 to 2012 and won bronze at the 2000 Summer Olympics , gold at the 2003 European Championship and bronze at the 2007 European Championship . In addition to these tournaments, he took part in the 2004 and 2012 Summer Olympics , the 2006 World Basketball Championships and the 2001 and 2011 European Championships .
