The NBA All-Star Game 2012 took place on February 26, 2012 as part of the All-Star Weekend in Orlando (Florida) . The 61st All-Star Game was played at the Amway Center , home of the Orlando Magic . The award of the All-Star Games to Orlando was announced on May 4, 2010 by Commissioner David Stern . It was the second time since 1992 that the All-Star Game took place in Orlando.
The Western Conference team won 152: 149 against the Eastern Conference team. Kevin Durant was voted MVP of the All-Star Games with 36 points and 7 rebounds . With 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, Dwyane Wade was the third player after Michael Jordan and LeBron James , who scored a triple-double in an All-Star Game and Kobe Bryant overtook Michael Jordan on the All-Time Scoring List in All- Star Games.

The head coaches of the two All-Star teams are traditionally the coaches whose team leads the respective conference two weeks before the game. Scott Brooks of the Oklahoma City Thunder was responsible for the Western Conference team and Tom Thibodeau of the Chicago Bulls was responsible for the Eastern Conference .
Squad
The players (two guards, two forwards and one center per conference) who received the most votes in a fan vote are allowed into the starting five . After the election, the 30 head coaches of the NBA clubs select a further seven players for the team in their conference (two guards, two forwards, one center and two other position-independent players), so that a total of 24 players take part in this event.

BBVA Rising Stars Challenge
The Rookie Challenge from previous years, in which the best rookies and sophomores met, was replaced this year by a new format, the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge . The measures TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal on the role of general manager and made from a selected one of the assistant coaches of NBA clubs lot of rookies and sophomores each a team of ten players together, which then competed. "Team Chuck" won the game 146-133, and Kyrie Irving was voted MVP of the game.

Sprite Slam Dunk Contest
There was also a new format for the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest this year. The competition only had one round in which the participants took turns doing three dunkings . After all participants had demonstrated their first dunking, the fans were allowed to vote via Twitter , SMS or nba.com who should be the winner.
In contrast to previous years, there was no longer a jury to evaluate the dunkings.

Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout
The Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout is another event at the All-Star Weekend. There are five stations that are distributed around the three-point line . Each station contains five balls. The first four balls are worth one point. The last ball is the money ball, which is worth two points. The players have one minute to score as many points as possible. The three best throwers from the preliminary round compete against each other in the final round.

Taco Bell Skills Challenge
The Taco Bell Skills Challenge is about individual dexterity with the ball. A player has to throw baskets, make lay-ups, pass and dribble around obstacles as quickly as possible.
The three fastest participants from the preliminary round compete against each other in the final round.

Haier Shooting Stars
The Haier Shooting Stars Competition Teams always consist of an active NBA player, a former player and a player from the WNBA . The aim is that all team members from six throwing stations of different difficulty hit as quickly as possible. As soon as a player hits the next player can move up to this station. Each team has a maximum of two minutes to complete all stations.
